One Killed in Pittsfield Township Collision

One Killed in a Pittsfield Township Collision Monday evening after a devastating three-vehicle crash in Washtenaw County left another driver in critical condition. The serious accident occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Platt Road, just south of Ellsworth Road, in Pittsfield Township.

Details of the Crash

According to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, a Lexus traveling northbound on Platt Road reportedly crossed over the center line for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle then collided head-on with a Jeep heading southbound. The force of the crash caused debris to scatter into a third vehicle traveling nearby.

Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene. The 44-year-old driver of the Lexus, a resident of Saline, was transported by Huron Valley Ambulance but tragically passed away while en route to the hospital. The 59-year-old driver of the Jeep, a Monroe resident, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a local hospital for urgent medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported by the occupant of the third vehicle.

Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation

The Ann Arbor Fire Department also assisted at the scene after early reports suggested the crash may have occurred within city limits. Platt Road between Ellsworth Road and Platt Lane was closed for several hours while first responders cleared the wreckage and investigators documented evidence.

The Pittsfield Township Police Crash Investigation Unit is actively reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials are asking any witnesses to come forward and contact the department through its confidential tip line or dispatch.

The Financial and Legal Impact on Victims

In tragic accidents like this, families often face overwhelming emotional and financial burdens. When a fatality occurs, surviving loved ones may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation in these cases can include funeral and burial expenses, medical bills incurred before death, loss of income and future financial support, and loss of companionship and guidance.

For injured victims, compensation may cover emergency medical treatment, hospitalization, surgeries, rehabilitation, lost wages, reduced earning capacity, and pain and suffering. In cases involving critical injuries, long-term care costs and future medical needs may also be considered. These damages are intended to help families regain financial stability after an unexpected and life-altering event.
