Deadly Head-On Accident Reported in Monroe County

A deadly head-on accident reported in Monroe County resulted in the tragic death of a 60-year-old woman and left two teenagers hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities confirmed. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 23, south of Sterns Road in Whiteford Township, Michigan, late Saturday night.

Details of the Monroe County Head-On Collision

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 9:56 p.m. An 18-year-old man was driving a northbound Ford F-150 when it collided head-on with a Ford Escape driven by 60-year-old Rhonda L. Bartnik of Ottawa Lake, Michigan.

Tragically, Bartnik died at the scene. The young man and a 17-year-old female passenger in the F-150 were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were listed in serious condition on Saturday night. Both victims are from Dundee, Michigan.

Preliminary investigations by the sheriff’s office indicate that careless driving may have been a contributing factor to the collision. However, the investigation remained ongoing as officials worked to determine the full circumstances of the crash. Anyone with information about the incident has been urged to contact the sheriff’s office or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers of Michigan.
