Man Ejected from Vehicle and Hit by Another Car in I-94 Accident

A man ejected from a vehicle and hit by another car in an I-94 accident early Thursday morning is now fighting for his life, according to the Michigan State Police. The terrifying crash occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. along westbound I-94 near Concord Avenue in Detroit and involved a single vehicle, a Dodge Magnum.

When troopers from the Detroit Regional Communication Center responded to the emergency call, they arrived at a scene of chaos. The Dodge Magnum was found mangled and blocking both the right and center lanes. It was fully engulfed in flames as the Detroit Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze. The vehicle’s 23-year-old driver, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, had been violently ejected during the rollover and landed in the right lane of the freeway.

Investigators believe the crash began when the Dodge veered off the road to the right, ascended an embankment, then flipped and rolled back onto the freeway before bursting into flames. Tragically, moments after being ejected, the driver was struck by another passing vehicle—possibly a maroon Ford Escape—according to eyewitness accounts at the scene. The vehicle that struck the driver did not remain at the scene, and police are actively working to locate it.

The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition. His injuries have been described as life-threatening, and authorities have not released his name pending family notification.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has confirmed that portions of westbound I-94 were temporarily closed as emergency personnel responded and cleared the scene. Investigations into both the rollover and the subsequent hit-and-run are ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact Michigan State Police.
