12-Year-Old Boy Hurt in Warren Hit-and-Run Crash
A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured after being struck by an SUV in a hit-and-run crash in Warren, Michigan. The tragic incident has left the community shaken as police continue to search for the driver responsible. According to investigators, the crash occurred around 5 p.m. Monday near 13 Mile Road and Moceri Circle, just west of Schoenherr Road.
Authorities say the young boy was riding a minibike when an SUV collided with him, throwing him onto the roadway. Instead of stopping to help, the driver fled the scene. The Warren Police Department reported that the vehicle was last seen heading westbound on 13 Mile Road. The boy suffered serious injuries and was rushed by the Warren Fire Department to a local hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
Investigators believe the suspect’s vehicle may be a newer-model Chevrolet Equinox, possibly black or gray in color. The Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit has already interviewed multiple witnesses and is reviewing nearby security footage to identify the driver. Police are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to contact Detective M. Accivatti at 586-574-4859 or maccivatti@warrenpd.org.
A Family Searching for Answers
For the young victim’s family, this devastating crash has brought unimaginable pain and uncertainty. What began as an ordinary day turned into a nightmare that could have easily been fatal. As their child recovers in the hospital, the family is left struggling with medical expenses, emotional trauma, and unanswered questions about why the driver chose to flee instead of helping an injured child.
Compensation at Stake for the Victims
In situations like this, Michigan law allows victims of hit-and-run crashes to seek compensation through various legal channels. Depending on the investigation’s outcome, the family may be entitled to pursue coverage for medical expenses, lost future income, pain and suffering damages, and compensation for emotional distress. If the driver is identified and proven to be negligent, they can also be held responsible for punitive damages, which are intended to punish reckless or intentional wrongdoing.
Even when the at-fault driver remains unidentified, victims may still have options under uninsured motorist coverage or other insurance provisions. These claims can be complex and time-sensitive, requiring legal expertise to ensure the victim’s rights are fully protected.
