Detroit Teen Charged in Fatal Crash That Took Life of Father of Two

A 16-year-old Detroit teen is facing serious charges after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a deadly collision, claiming the life of a Michigan father of two. The teen has now been bound over to circuit court, where he will face multiple felony charges stemming from the tragic July 12 crash.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the teenager is charged with second-degree murder and several related offenses following the crash that killed 28-year-old Alex Habib of Madison Heights. Prosecutors allege that the teen stole a vehicle and led officers on a dangerous pursuit through Roseville. The chase came to a devastating end when the stolen vehicle collided with Habib’s car in Warren, fatally injuring the young father.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido emphasized the importance of accountability in cases like this, regardless of the suspect’s age. “Accountability matters, regardless of age. Our duty is to pursue justice, and that means proceeding with the full weight of the law,” Lucido said in a statement. He also urged lawmakers to strengthen laws targeting drivers who flee from police, noting, “Every time someone runs, they roll the dice with innocent lives. I want to end that gamble.”

The teen is expected to be arraigned in circuit court on November 17, where prosecutors will continue to pursue justice on behalf of Habib’s family and the community affected by the senseless tragedy.

A Family Devastated by Negligence

The death of Alex Habib has left his family heartbroken. Friends and relatives describe him as a loving father devoted to his two young children and a hardworking member of his community. The sudden loss has not only taken away a father and son but has also left a lasting emotional and financial void for those who depended on him most.

The Compensation at Stake for Victims’ Families

In cases like this, the surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim to seek justice and financial relief. Compensation in such cases can include damages for medical and funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and lost future income that the victim would have provided to their family. While no amount of money can replace a loved one, obtaining fair compensation can help families rebuild their lives and cover the financial challenges that follow a sudden loss.
