Warren Police Hunt for Hit-and-Run Driver Who Injured 2 Teens
The Warren Police Department is actively investigating a hit-and-run incident that left two teenagers injured earlier this week. The crash occurred around 3 p.m. on November 5 in the area of Timken Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, and authorities are now urging the public to help identify the driver responsible.
According to police, the two teens were riding their bicycles when they were struck by a dark-colored SUV, believed to be a Chevy Equinox. The impact threw both victims to the ground, leaving them with minor injuries. Emergency responders transported the teens to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening, but the emotional trauma and fear caused by the crash remain significant.
Witnesses told investigators that the driver initially stopped, appeared to check on the teens, but then fled the scene moments later. The driver is described as a Black woman with a light complexion and green hair. Police believe she was the only occupant in the vehicle. The Warren Police Department has since released photos of the suspect vehicle, hoping that someone recognizes it and comes forward with information.
Detective M. Palmer is leading the investigation. Anyone with surveillance footage or relevant details is encouraged to contact the Warren Police Department at 586-574-4841 or email mpalmer@warrenpd.org.
Community Shock and Safety Concerns
Incidents like this serve as a grim reminder of the dangers pedestrians and cyclists face daily. Community members in Warren have expressed growing concern over drivers speeding or failing to stay alert in residential areas. Parents in the neighborhood have called for additional safety measures, including better signage, crosswalks, and public awareness campaigns to protect children and teens.
Legal Rights and Compensation for Victims
Even though the teens’ injuries were classified as minor, the victims and their families have the right to seek compensation for medical expenses, emotional trauma, and other damages resulting from the crash. Michigan law allows victims of hit-and-run accidents to pursue claims under uninsured motorist coverage or, once the driver is identified, file a personal injury lawsuit for pain and suffering, medical bills, lost income, and long-term psychological impact.
