Pontiac Man Charged in Crash That Killed Mom, and Two Kids
Pontiac Man Charged in Crash That Killed Mom and Two Kids has shaken the Oakland County community after prosecutors announced charges stemming from a devastating August 2025 collision that claimed the lives of a young mother and her two sons.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Tomas Alvarado Jr. has been charged with three counts of reckless driving causing death and one count of reckless driving causing serious injury. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
Authorities report that the crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. on August 29, 2025. Investigators allege that Alvarado was driving southbound on Joslyn Road when he crossed the center line and veered off the roadway. Deputies say his vehicle struck multiple poles and traffic signs before colliding with a car stopped at a red light on Montcalm Avenue.
Inside that vehicle was 37-year-old Deniquah Reed and her four children. Reed and her two young sons, 6-year-old Dior and 4-year-old Dex, tragically lost their lives in the crash. Her 9-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries but has since recovered. The loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of family members and loved ones.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard emphasized the gravity of the incident, stating that operating a multi-thousand-pound vehicle demands full attention and responsibility. While investigators indicated that drugs and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the crash, authorities allege that reckless driving behavior led to the fatal outcome.
Alvarado was arraigned and later released on bond after turning himself in upon learning of the charges.
The Compensation at Stake for the Victims’ Families
In cases involving fatal crashes and serious injuries, surviving family members may have the right to pursue compensation through a wrongful death and personal injury claim.
These claims can seek damages for funeral and burial expenses, medical bills, lost future income and financial support, pain and suffering, and the profound emotional loss experienced by surviving family members. When a parent is killed, the long-term financial and emotional impact on surviving children can be substantial.
Additionally, the injured child may be entitled to compensation for medical treatment, rehabilitation costs, emotional trauma, and any lasting effects resulting from the crash. Civil claims are separate from criminal proceedings and focus on holding the responsible party financially accountable for the harm caused.
