Two-Vehicle Accident in Commerce Township Leaves Three Injured

Two-Vehicle Accident in Commerce Township Leaves Three Injured following a serious crash Thursday afternoon at a busy Oakland County intersection, prompting a large emergency response and a multi-hour traffic shutdown.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred at the intersection of Maple Road and M-5 in Commerce Township. Investigators believe one of the drivers entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and was struck by another vehicle traveling southbound on M-5. The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles and resulted in injuries to all three individuals involved.

Emergency responders from Commerce Township Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene shortly after the crash was reported. One driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital in the Novi area, where they remain under close medical supervision. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the individual’s condition, but the injuries were described as life-threatening.

The second vehicle involved in the crash was carrying two occupants. Both individuals suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital in West Bloomfield for evaluation and treatment. While their injuries were not considered life-threatening, officials emphasized that even “minor” injuries can have lasting effects and should not be underestimated.

Due to the severity of the collision and the need for emergency medical care and crash reconstruction, all southbound lanes of M-5 at Maple Road were closed for approximately two hours. The Michigan Department of Transportation confirmed significant traffic delays in the area as crews worked to clear the roadway and ensure public safety. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit is continuing its investigation to determine all contributing factors, including speed, visibility, and driver behavior.

Compensation That May Be Available to Injured Victims

Victims injured in a two-vehicle accident like this may be entitled to several types of compensation, depending on the circumstances of the crash. These may include coverage for medical expenses, hospitalization, rehabilitation, and ongoing treatment. Injured individuals may also seek compensation for lost wages, reduced earning capacity, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In cases involving critical injuries, future medical care, long-term disability, and diminished quality of life may significantly increase the value of a claim. If negligence—such as running a red light—is proven, additional compensation may be available through a third-party liability claim.
