Two motorcyclists are in critical condition after their bikes collided with a sedan on North Milford Road in Highland Township, Oakland County, on Saturday afternoon, June 28, 2026. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which was reported by CBS Detroit.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 4:50 p.m. near Wind Valley Lane. A 28-year-old driver in a BMW M550 was traveling southbound on North Milford Road and was in the process of turning into a driveway when the collision occurred. At the same time, a 26-year-old operating a Suzuki GSX1300 and a 21-year-old riding a Kawasaki ZT1000 were traveling northbound on North Milford Road. The BMW and both motorcycles collided, ejecting both motorcycle operators. The BMW driver was not injured. Both motorcyclists, who are from Grand Blanc, Michigan, were transported to a hospital where they were listed in critical condition Saturday night. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office stated that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision.
What Those Involved May Want To Know.
When a crash involves a turning vehicle and two critically injured motorcyclists, the Crash Reconstruction Unit’s investigation may help determine how the collision occurred and whether any driver failed to yield or otherwise contributed to the crash.
The injured motorcyclists may have legal options, including potential liability claims, depending on what the investigation determines. Under Michigan law, a driver making a turn across oncoming traffic is generally required to yield to oncoming vehicles. Whether that requirement applies in this specific situation, and how it affects any liability claim, depends on facts the investigation has not yet established.
Michigan’s no-fault insurance system provides personal injury protection benefits for medical expenses and wage loss regardless of fault. For motorcyclists, however, eligibility for no-fault PIP benefits follows different rules than for occupants of passenger vehicles. The applicable coverage depends on the specific circumstances of the crash and the available insurance policies. A motorcycle accident attorney can help identify what coverage may apply and whether additional claims may be available.
