A 70-year-old man from Holly died after his motorcycle collided head-on with a Dodge Caravan on White Lake Road in White Lake Township, Oakland County, on Sunday evening, June 29, 2026. The 70-year-old motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old driver of the Dodge Caravan, from Highland, was transported to a local hospital for injuries. After being cleared by medical staff, the driver was arrested. The case has been referred to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for official charges. No additional details about the circumstances of the crash had been released as of the time of publication.

What Those Involved May Want to Know

When a motorcycle and a vehicle traveling in opposite directions collide on a two-lane road, the facts that matter most include which vehicle crossed the center line, whether either driver was impaired, and the road and visibility conditions at the time of the crash. Although the driver of the minivan was arrested after receiving medical treatment, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether criminal charges are filed based on the evidence gathered during the investigation.

Under Michigan’s wrongful death statute, MCL 600.2922, the family of the 70-year-old motorcyclist who died in this crash may have grounds to pursue a civil claim. Whether such a claim may be available, and against which parties, depends on facts the investigation is still establishing. An attorney can evaluate those questions as information becomes available from the prosecutor’s office and law enforcement.

For motorcycle crashes in Michigan, eligibility for no-fault PIP benefits follows different rules than for occupants of passenger vehicles. The applicable coverage depends on the circumstances of the crash and the available insurance policies. A personal injury attorney can help identify what coverage may apply and whether liability claims may be available.
