Man Arrested After Deadly Oak Park Hit-and-Run

Man Arrested After Deadly Oak Park Hit-and-Run has led to criminal charges following the tragic death of a 71-year-old disabled veteran who relied on a wheelchair. The fatal incident occurred in November 2025 and has left the victim’s family seeking answers, accountability, and justice.

Authorities say the suspect, 28-year-old Devin Asa-Armon Light of Southfield, was taken into custody and formally charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death. He was arrested on Thursday and later arraigned, according to Oak Park police. The charge reflects the serious nature of leaving the scene after a fatal crash, especially when the victim is left without immediate medical aid.

The collision happened during the early morning hours of November 22, 2025, near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Harding Street, just east of Greenfield Road. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying in the roadway. Despite emergency responders performing lifesaving measures, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that the victim was in the roadway when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Police believe the driver was operating a dark-colored sedan and continued driving after the impact, never stopping to check on the victim or call for help. Officials estimate the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m., but it was not reported to authorities until approximately 5:20 a.m., raising further concerns about the delay in emergency response.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement issued a search for a dark gray Hyundai Elantra, model years 2023 through 2026. Their efforts later led them to a dark gray 2024 Hyundai Elantra that had been abandoned in Detroit. That discovery ultimately helped authorities identify and arrest the suspect.

Beyond the criminal case, hit-and-run accidents often leave families facing overwhelming emotional and financial burdens. The surviving family members may be entitled to pursue compensation through a wrongful death claim. This type of compensation can include funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred before death, loss of the victim’s financial support, and loss of companionship and guidance. In cases involving veterans or individuals with disabilities, families may also face unique long-term care and dependency losses that deserve full consideration.
