Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 12 in Washtenaw County

Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 12 in Washtenaw County left one man dead, and another driver seriously injured following a mid-day collision in Brookfield Township, according to the Michigan State Police.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:14 p.m. on Wednesday along U.S. 12 near Lima Center Road. Troopers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a serious two-vehicle collision involving a passenger car and an SUV. Emergency crews arrived quickly, but the incident had already resulted in fatal consequences.

According to investigators, a 34-year-old man from Clinton was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on U.S. 12 at the time of the crash. Witnesses told police that moments before the collision, the Malibu was seen passing multiple vehicles and swerving in and out of its lane. At one point, the vehicle crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic.

While traveling eastbound on U.S. 12, a 2018 Jeep Compass was struck head-on by the Malibu. The Jeep was being driven by a 42-year-old woman from Quincy. Due to the force of the impact, the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles and brought traffic in the area to a standstill as first responders worked to secure the scene.

The woman driving the Jeep was transported to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment. Authorities stated that she suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene. Michigan State Police continue to investigate the crash to determine all contributing factors, including speed, reckless driving behavior, and potential impairment.

Crashes like this often leave victims and their families facing overwhelming physical, emotional, and financial challenges. For injured victims, compensation may be available for medical expenses, future medical care, lost wages, reduced earning capacity, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In fatal crash cases, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim, which can include compensation for funeral and burial costs, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and the emotional impact of losing a loved one.
