Fatal Three-Car Crash in Clinton Township Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
Fatal Three-Car Crash in Clinton Township Leaves One Dead after a chain-reaction collision on Metropolitan Parkway claimed the life of a young Michigan man and sent two others to the hospital Monday evening, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 8:06 p.m. on westbound Metropolitan Parkway, just east of Groesbeck Highway, in Clinton Township. Police say the incident involved three vehicles: a black 2019 Ram ProMaster 3500 van, a green 2019 Ford Mustang, and a black 2010 Ford Transit Connect van. Investigators with the Clinton Township Police Department are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to preliminary findings, both the Ford Mustang and the Ford Transit Connect were stopped at a turnaround traffic signal when the Ram ProMaster struck the Mustang from behind. The impact’s force pushed the Mustang forward, causing it to collide with the rear of the Ford Transit. The sequence of events unfolded quickly, leaving little opportunity for the stopped drivers to avoid the crash.
After the collision, the driver of the Ford Transit exited the vehicle to check on the other motorists involved. During that effort, the Transit driver discovered that the Mustang driver was unresponsive. Emergency medical personnel from Medstar Ambulance arrived at the scene and transported the Mustang driver—a 27-year-old man from Ann Arbor—to McLaren Hospital. Despite medical intervention, he was later pronounced dead.
Police reported that the driver of the Ram ProMaster and a passenger in that vehicle left the scene before first responders arrived. Officers located the two individuals shortly thereafter and transported them to McLaren Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have not yet released details regarding potential charges, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to contact the Clinton Township Police Department at 586-493-7802 or Sgt. Deneweth at 586-493-7890. Witness statements and other evidence may be critical in determining liability and understanding exactly how the collision occurred.
Compensation That May Be Available to Victims and Families
In fatal multi-vehicle crashes like this, surviving family members and injured victims may be entitled to pursue compensation under Michigan law. This can include wrongful death claims for funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, and loss of companionship.
Injured parties may also seek compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages, reduced earning capacity, and pain and suffering. Determining liability in chain-reaction crashes can be complex, especially when multiple vehicles and contributing factors are involved, making a thorough legal investigation essential.
