Fatal Detroit Crash Into Furniture Store Leaves Two Dead
A Fatal Detroit Crash Into Furniture Store Leaves Two Dead and Two Others Seriously Injured after a high-speed collision early Wednesday morning on the city’s east side. The heartbreaking incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. near Gratiot Avenue and French Road when a vehicle carrying four adults slammed into a furniture building, leaving devastation in its wake.
Detroit Police confirmed that two of the victims, later identified as siblings JoShaunda Scott and Catone Scott, were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two occupants sustained serious injuries, with one listed in critical condition at a local hospital. The driver, who authorities believe was speeding at the time of the crash, is currently in police custody. Charges are expected following a full investigation and submission of a report to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Family and friends of the victims are mourning the loss of two cherished members of the community. Larry Williams, a longtime friend of the Scott siblings, shared his grief: “I’ve known JoShaunda and Catone for over 25 years. They’re going to be missed by everybody. Everybody loved them, and they loved their family.”
The crash not only claimed lives but also caused significant damage to the building owned by Scott Hunter’s family. The property, recently purchased, now faces structural instability. “I just found out they were all family—three siblings and a cousin—so two of the siblings passed,” Hunter said. “That is tragic for that family.” On Wednesday afternoon, construction crews worked urgently to secure the building and prevent a collapse.
