32-Year-Old Hurt in Monroe County Semi Crash

A 32-year-old man was critically injured in a Monroe County semi crash on northbound Interstate 75 near Nadeau Road in Frenchtown Township, Michigan. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred Saturday when traffic slowed for construction in the area.

Authorities report that a 2015 Volvo semitruck had come to a stop due to the construction backup. A Ford Fusion, driven by the 32-year-old Rockwood man, struck the rear of the truck with significant force. Emergency responders rushed the driver of the Ford to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Officials noted that the injured driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the impact, which likely worsened the severity of his injuries.

The truck driver was not injured in the incident. Investigators believe that driver inattention played a role in the crash, though the case remains under active investigation. Law enforcement continues to review all contributing factors to determine the full cause of the accident.

The Aftermath of Serious Semi-Truck Collisions

Semi-truck crashes often result in devastating injuries due to the sheer size and weight of commercial vehicles. Victims in smaller passenger cars are particularly vulnerable, and as seen in this accident, the consequences can be life-altering. Injuries sustained in such collisions can lead to long-term medical treatment, rehabilitation, and loss of income.

Compensation at Stake for Victims

In situations like this, victims may be entitled to various forms of compensation, depending on the findings of the investigation. This may include coverage for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and the costs of long-term care or rehabilitation. If negligence, such as distracted driving or failure to follow safety regulations, is proven, additional damages may also be pursued. Even though the driver in this case was not wearing a seatbelt, Michigan law still allows injured victims to seek compensation, although contributory factors may impact the amount.
