Pontiac Woman Arrested Following Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident
Pontiac Woman Arrested Following Deadly Hit-and-Run Incident after a tragic motorcycle crash on September 1 in Oakland County, Michigan. Authorities confirmed that charges have now been filed in connection with the fatal collision that claimed the life of a local motorcyclist and left his passenger injured.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, 36-year-old Leeann Jean Darling of Pontiac faces multiple felony charges, including failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, operating a motor vehicle. At the same time, her license was suspended, and operating a vehicle while suspended caused serious injury. These charges reflect the severity of the incident and the consequences of leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
Court records show that Darling was arraigned on Saturday in the 50th District Court in Pontiac, where her bond was set at $750,000. A probable cause conference is scheduled for October 14, and she remains held in the Oakland County Jail pending further court proceedings.
The deadly crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on September 1 at the intersection of Woodward Avenue and Perry Street in Pontiac. Deputies reported that the driver of a 2010 GMC Terrain ran a red light on northbound Perry Street, striking a motorcycle carrying two riders.
The motorcyclist, Jack Leverne Turnblom, was transported to a nearby hospital but sadly died from his injuries. His passenger was also hospitalized but has since been released. According to investigators, neither individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
In the immediate aftermath, the driver of the GMC allegedly exited the vehicle and fled on foot, sparking a detailed investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. Through their efforts, Darling was identified as the suspected driver. Officials say she turned herself in on October 1.
Compensation at Stake for Victims and Their Families
In a tragic incident like this, the surviving family members and the injured passenger may be entitled to several forms of compensation. This can include reimbursement for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost income, future loss of earnings, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
In cases involving egregious negligence—such as fleeing the scene or driving on a suspended license—additional damages may be pursued to hold the at-fault driver fully accountable.
The loss of a loved one is emotionally devastating, and the financial consequences only deepen the hardship. This is where compassionate and skilled legal guidance becomes essential.
