Detroit Man Killed After Fleeing Juveniles Cause Fatal Crash [Warren]

A 48-year-old Detroit man was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, after a vehicle fleeing Warren police ran a red light and struck his car at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road. Remeious Washington had been pulling over to yield to sirens when the crash occurred. Four juveniles were arrested at the scene. The story was reported by ClickOnDetroit Local 4 News.

According to Warren police, officers on routine patrol attempted to stop a silver Dodge Ram near Fairfield and Georgiana streets after spotting multiple occupants wearing ski masks while driving through residential neighborhoods. The driver did not stop. When the Dodge reached the intersection of 8 Mile and Schoenherr, it ran a red light and struck Washington’s vehicle as he was in the process of moving over to yield to the emergency pursuit. Washington was transported to a local hospital by the Detroit Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead. Five juveniles were in the Dodge Ram. All five fled on foot after the crash. Four were apprehended. Investigators said the group is believed to be connected to at least 15 vehicle-related crimes reported throughout Warren in the 48 hours before the crash. Washington’s family said the youngest occupant of the fleeing vehicle was 11 years old.

Washington’s family gathered Friday evening for a vigil that had originally been planned as a Juneteenth celebration he was helping organize. His sisters described him as someone known for looking out for others. According to his family, he was just six minutes from home when the crash occurred.
