Pickup Hits Mom and Child in Warren – Know Your Rights
Pickup Hits Mom and Child in Warren, leaving one family devastated and a community searching for answers. The heartbreaking incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday in the parking lot of Alex’s Market and Grill, located in Holly Township, Oakland County. According to the Michigan State Police, a 29-year-old Warren woman was holding her 1-year-old daughter while tending to another child in a parked Ford Explorer when both she and the toddler were struck and run over by a commercial-grade Ford pickup truck.
The woman was reportedly reaching into the SUV—either to place the child in a seat or to remove them—when the collision occurred. The driver of the pickup, a 72-year-old man from Carleton, was pulling out of the adjacent parking space when he fatally struck the mother and injured the child. First responders from the Michigan State Police rushed to the scene after a 911 call reported a pedestrian had been hit. Troopers attempted CPR on the woman until EMS arrived, but tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her 1-year-old daughter, also struck during the crash, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver of the pickup was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. “It does appear at this time that impaired driving is the cause of this crash,” said MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw. “While many drivers are aware of the impacts of alcohol while driving, we continue to remind drivers that the same is true for drug impairment.” The investigation remains ongoing.
What Kind of Compensation Could the Family Receive?
In tragic cases like this, surviving family members may be entitled to wrongful death compensation, which can include coverage for funeral expenses, medical bills, loss of companionship, and emotional distress. Additionally, the injured child may have a personal injury claim that covers current and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, and long-term care if necessary.
