Brighton Police Chase Ends in Deadly Crash

A Brighton police chase ended in a deadly crash late Tuesday night, claiming one life and injuring another in a violent three-vehicle collision. The tragic chain of events unfolded around 10:45 p.m. when an officer from the Brighton Police Department observed a black Dodge Charger being driven recklessly along West Grand River Avenue.

According to the official police report, the officer attempted a traffic stop by activating their lights and sirens, but the driver of the Charger refused to comply. The suspect vehicle accelerated away, leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit through several streets, including Beaver Street, North East Street, Flint Road, and Hilton Road.

As the suspect attempted to turn onto Old US-23 from Hilton Road, the driver maneuvered into the northbound lanes in an apparent effort to pass a southbound vehicle. In doing so, the Charger sideswiped the vehicle it was attempting to pass, causing it to spin out. Moments later, the Charger collided with another vehicle traveling northbound and flipped over upon impact.

Emergency responders pronounced the Charger’s driver dead at the scene. The driver of the northbound car sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the driver of the southbound vehicle that was sideswiped was unharmed. All parties involved were reported to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.

The Livingston County Accident Reconstruction Team was dispatched to the crash site to thoroughly investigate the incident. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver pending notification of family.

In an official statement, Brighton police expressed their condolences: “This is a tragic incident, and as law enforcement officers, we never want to see a life lost.”
