Young Girl Struck by Vehicle on I-94 as Domestic Incident Unfolds
Young Girl Struck by Vehicle on I-94 as Domestic Incident Unfolds — a tragic series of events unfolded Monday night on westbound Interstate 94 in Wayne County, shedding light on the devastating consequences of domestic violence in moving vehicles. According to the Michigan State Police, a violent altercation inside a brown Ford SUV around 9 p.m. led to injuries for three individuals, including an 8-year-old girl who was seriously hurt during the chaos.
Concerned drivers traveling along I-94 made several 911 calls after witnessing what appeared to be a domestic assault taking place inside the SUV. Initial reports indicated that a man exited the vehicle and walked along the highway near Vining Road, Exit 197, while the SUV continued down the road. Responding troopers arrived to find a 51-year-old Dearborn man with a serious eye injury. He was transported to a local hospital for immediate care.
Authorities quickly learned that the incident began when the injured man and a 36-year-old male suspect—also from Dearborn—became engaged in a heated argument while inside the moving SUV. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting the victim to pull over onto the shoulder. As tensions intensified, the suspect attempted to exit the vehicle. At the same time, an 8-year-old girl—another passenger—also tried to get out of the car.
Tragically, as the child exited, she lost her balance and fell onto the pavement. In a horrifying moment, the SUV rolled over her arm before the suspect drove off with the girl still inside. This critical error could have had even more severe consequences had bystanders not intervened. Troopers later located both the suspect and the injured girl at a local hospital. She was then transferred to the care of another responsible adult and referred to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit for specialized treatment. The suspect was taken into police custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
State police are continuing to piece together the full details of the assault and plan to submit a comprehensive report to the county prosecutor. First Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police confirmed that charges are likely pending.
What Type of Compensation Could Be Available for the Victims?
In cases like this, where innocent victims—especially children—suffer serious injuries due to another person’s negligent or reckless actions, there may be grounds for a personal injury claim. The injured girl may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, emotional trauma, future medical treatments, and potentially even long-term disability, depending on the extent of her injuries.
