Warren Man Killed, Four Injured in Head-On Crash [STERLING HEIGHTS, MI]

A 42-year-old Warren man was killed and four others were injured in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Dequindre Road in Sterling Heights on Sunday morning, September 13, 2026. Sterling Heights police are investigating and are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.

According to Sterling Heights police, the crash occurred just after 11:45 a.m. on Dequindre Road just south of Tarry Drive. A 54-year-old Macomb man was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Dequindre when the vehicle crossed through the center turn lane and collided head-on with a Ford Fusion driven by the 42-year-old Warren man.

The Warren man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Macomb man was transported to a local hospital with serious facial injuries. Three passengers in the Jeep were also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police said alcohol use was not suspected in the crash. Other factors, including speed and a possible medical emergency, remain under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Paige of the Sterling Heights Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau at (586) 446-2920 and reference case number 26-79842.

What Those Involved May Want to Know

When a head-on collision kills one driver and injures others, the legal questions for those involved can depend on what the investigation ultimately establishes about how and why the collision occurred.

Sterling Heights police said speed and a possible medical emergency are among the factors being investigated. Neither has been identified as the cause of the crash at this stage. The findings of the investigation may be important in determining why the Jeep crossed into the path of the Ford Fusion and whether another party may bear civil liability.

Under Michigan’s wrongful death statute, MCL 600.2922, a wrongful death claim may be available when a death results from another party’s wrongful act, neglect, or fault. Whether such a claim may apply here will depend on what the investigation establishes about the cause of the crash.

Michigan’s no-fault system may provide eligible people injured in the crash with PIP benefits for allowable medical expenses and wage loss, subject to applicable coverage and eligibility rules. Whether additional claims for noneconomic damages may be available depends on the severity of the injuries and the circumstances of the collision. An auto accident attorney can help identify what coverage may apply and evaluate potential legal options as the investigation develops.
