SUV Crashes Into Child’s Room; Woman Charged
A tragic early-morning crash has left a Macomb County family reeling after a 20-year-old woman allegedly drove her SUV through a child’s bedroom. The shocking incident occurred at a Center Line home near 10 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue.
According to authorities, a 9-year-old girl was asleep when the SUV slammed through the wall of her bedroom, throwing her from her bed and out into the yard. She suffered multiple serious injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The family has since set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the child’s mounting medical expenses. Miraculously, a 22-month-old baby sleeping in the same home was missed by just four feet.
The driver, identified as Caris Adell Wade, allegedly fled the scene on foot after the crash. A Warren police officer, who happened to be nearby, located and arrested her shortly afterward. Wade now faces several criminal charges, including reckless driving causing serious injury and failure to stop at the scene of a crash. Officials noted that additional charges could be filed pending the outcome of toxicology tests, which will determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
A Community in Shock
The crash has shaken the Center Line community, with neighbors expressing disbelief at how a quiet street turned into a disaster zone overnight. Families in the area are calling for stronger safety measures and accountability for reckless driving, especially near residential zones. Incidents like these not only destroy property but also leave deep emotional and psychological scars for the victims involved.
Legal Options and Compensation for the Victims
When a crash of this magnitude occurs, the victims and their families have a right to pursue compensation for their losses. In Michigan, victims of reckless driving accidents may be entitled to recover damages for medical expenses, ongoing rehabilitation, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. Property damage claims can also help cover the costs of rebuilding or repairing the destroyed home.
