A 68-year-old Detroit woman is recovering from serious injuries after being viciously attacked by pit bulls outside her own home on Sunday evening, March 29, 2026. The attack occurred near Pulford and Meldrum streets on Detroit’s east side, leaving the victim, Rita Emery, in need of emergency hospitalization and a surgical procedure that lasted more than seven hours.

Rita Emery had been outside tending to her yard when the dogs knocked her to the ground and attacked her. Her son, Sean Emery, described the scene as one of the most disturbing he had ever witnessed.
