Pickup Truck Crash Claims One Life in Frenchtown Township
A tragic accident unfolded Sunday evening in Frenchtown Township, Michigan, when a pickup truck crash claimed the life of a Monroe County resident. Authorities confirmed that 75-year-old Michael J. Procy, of Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene following the fatal collision.
Details of the Crash
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. on Fourth Street, west of Bronson Street, in the Detroit Beach neighborhood of Frenchtown Township. Procy had been driving a black 2023 Ford F-150 pickup eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway.
The truck struck several vehicles and roadside posts before briefly reentering the street. Tragically, the pickup then drifted off the pavement again, this time colliding with a tree. The impact caused Procy to be ejected from the vehicle, despite wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Reports confirmed that the truck’s airbags had deployed, yet the force of the crash proved fatal.
Following the collision, the Ford F-150 continued moving, rotating counter-clockwise until it came to a stop on private property along the north side of the roadway. Emergency crews, including the Frenchtown Township Fire Department, Michigan State Police, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the Sheriff’s Victim Services Unit, responded to assist at the scene.
Ongoing Investigation
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Traffic Services Division has launched an active investigation to determine the cause of the crash. While no other injuries have been reported, deputies are urging anyone with information to step forward. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 734-240-7548 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP.
Compensation at Stake for Victims
In cases like this, surviving family members often face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges. Compensation can cover a wide range of damages, including funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, medical costs related to emergency response, and even non-economic damages such as pain, suffering, and emotional trauma. When negligence is a potential factor—whether due to road conditions, defective vehicle parts, or other causes—families may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. These legal avenues are essential in ensuring that justice is served and that families receive the financial stability needed to cope with such a devastating loss.
