I-75 at I-94 in Wayne County Reopens After Gravel Truck Crash
I-75 at I-94 in Wayne County reopens after gravel truck crash, hours after Michigan State Police (MSP) were forced to shut down the busy interchange due to a serious accident involving a gravel hauler. The incident caused significant traffic delays as crews worked to clear the scene and ensure the area was safe for drivers.
According to MSP, the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. when the Detroit Regional Communication Center received reports of a gravel hauler that had rolled over. Troopers responding to the scene found two trailers sprawled across all lanes of the northbound freeway, with another vehicle trapped between them. Emergency crews quickly worked to secure the scene, assess injuries, and redirect traffic.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 32-year-old driver from Sebewaing, Michigan, was unable to stop in time and rear-ended another car. The impact caused the semi-truck to roll over, striking a bridge abutment in the process. The driver of the passenger vehicle that was hit was transported to a hospital with a minor head injury, described by authorities as a bump on the head.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) was called to the scene to inspect the bridge for any potential structural damage. MSP 1st Lieutenant Mike Shaw emphasized the importance of safe driving distances, particularly when operating larger commercial vehicles. “One of the leading causes of crashes in the Metro Detroit area is following too closely,” Shaw said. “Distance is even more important when driving a heavier commercial truck. We want to remind all drivers to leave enough room between their vehicle and the one in front of them.”
While this crash fortunately resulted in only minor injuries, victims of similar accidents may be entitled to various forms of compensation. These can include reimbursement for medical expenses, coverage for lost wages if the victim is unable to work, compensation for pain and suffering, and costs associated with property damage. In cases where injuries are more severe, long-term medical care and rehabilitation may also be covered. Even in situations where injuries seem minor, it’s crucial to seek medical attention promptly and consult an attorney to understand the full scope of potential claims.
